Connectivity as the Enabler of IoT Businesses
I recently had the honor of taking part in a truly enriching conversation on the IoT em Foco podcast, hosted by the Tudo Sobre IoT channel, during the 1st edition of the IoT Solutions Congress Brasil (the Brazilian version of the renowned Barcelona event).
In the interview, conducted by Dhiego Frances, we took a deep dive into how connectivity is the real engine behind the Internet of Things (IoT) revolution, and how Algar Telecom has been working to transform this landscape in Brazil.
I like to think that if the third industrial revolution was about putting computers into machines, the fourth revolution is about making them talk to each other. There is no Industry 4.0 without IoT — and there is definitely no IoT without connectivity.
An Agnostic Approach and Multi-Connectivity
In the IoT market, there is no silver bullet. Depending on the use case — whether connecting downtown São Paulo or remote areas in agribusiness — the ideal technology can vary. That’s why we emphasize the importance of a complete portfolio covering 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, plus LPWAN networks such as LoRaWAN and NB-IoT.
The Device Management Challenge
Connecting is only the first step. The real differentiator for companies managing thousands or millions of devices (SIM cards) is having a centralized, democratic management platform that doesn’t lock the customer into a single vendor.
Private Networks and the Power of 5G
We discussed how the future of connectivity runs through private networks. They are fundamental for use cases requiring very low latency and high speed, enabling technologies such as augmented reality, industrial video analytics, and digital twins.
The Evolution Toward Everything as a Service
Pure connectivity has already become a commodity. The future for carriers and telecom companies is to deliver added value — offering data processing, cloud storage, and AI integration as a complete service.
